Bits and blurbs - Speech team edition

  • First off, my surgery went well. Things seem to be healing well, as far as I can tell. I mean, I can't see anything under my "splint."
Totally NOT a splint...this is full-on CAST.
  • The "splint" (I just can't think, talk, or write about it without the quotation marks. Sorry.) comes off in a week. Fingers crossed that this saga is over when the splint comes off.

  • Less than 24 hours post-op, I took off for the state speech tournament. This was my second time judging at state, and I loved it. I was the only judge who did all five two- to three-hour-long sessions of congressional debate (it's just as exciting as it sounds), which meant judging 12 hours of debate in a 27 hour period. It was brutal, but I loved it.

  • I freaking love speech.

  • I've also agreed to judge at another debate tournament in a couple of weeks for a different school. I can't get enough of this. This tournament is going to be held at the State House, like actual pretend Congress, so it might be interesting.

  • I so want a team I can coach.

  • There is a super-mega-bitch at work who has been gone for a couple of months. She came back today. In less than half a day, she had already started stirring the pot and generally being a bitch. So much for the peaceful work environment we've been enjoying since January.

  • Most of our trials have gone away for this month, which bums me out. We had some interesting stuff coming up, and it's all been continued for stupid reasons.

  • The boys got haircuts this weekend. B took them, which always leads to a disaster. The cuts are terrible. Turrible, actually. Super short, crooked bangs, uneven clippering depth (it's totally a thing) in the back...awful. Thankfully, their hair grows quickly, they'll look less nerdy in a couple of weeks.

  • Someone has moved into the house next door that has been vacant since before we got here. I knew it had been purchased, but I didn't know it was occupied. I learned that tidbit this morning as I was prancing through the kitchen post-shower and pre-clothing. Oops.

The quotes around splint are hilarious. The whole "splint" thing is hilarious. Seriously. Really funny.

There are few things I find more frustrating than paying for a bad haircut. I can do an amateur job MYSELF, for FREE.

I gave up on taking B for haircuts, I just do them at home now. SO much easier!
