As the weather starts warming up, I'm all ready thinking ahead to lazy summer evenings spent in the backyard reading something fun and fluffy while B and the boys run around doing boy things. That's where Stephanie McAfee's Diary of a Mad Fat Girl comes in.
The story is set in small-town Bugtussle, Mississippi, and focuses on Ace Jones; her hyper-active chiweenie (it's apparently a real dog breed), Senor Buster Loo Bluefeather; her best friend who's hiding a mystery boyfriend; another friend who is caught in an abusive marriage; the ex-boyfriend Ace never really got over; and the antics involved in getting everyone's lives untangled. It's a quick, fun read that kept me laughing the whole time. It would be perfect for a day at the beach, or to throw in your suitcase for vacation.
