Fashion victim 101

This is one of those posts where I implore my readers to come out of the woodwork and give me advice. Fashion advice, in this instance. I'm working on adultifying and accessorizing my wardrobe (particularly my work wardrobe...I wear regular clothes so infrequently any more that I'm not too concerned about my regular wardrobe). So, dear readers, please save me from myself and help me with the following:

1. Tights

Am I the kind of person who can pull off argyle tights? I found these tights today and sort of fell in love with them. I threw these two outfits together, but I'm not sure they work. Thoughts? (Please excuse the crappy cell phone camera pics and the apparently really, really dirty hallway mirror).

Option One: Brown sweater, white cami, tan skirt, brown shoes. You'll just have to trust me when I tell you that the browns in the tights match the browns in my clothes.

Option Two: Blue sweater, brown cami, tan skirt, brown shoes.

This is also a tights-related outfit. Are the black tights/shoes ok with this dress? If I wear this out of the house, I'll put a black cami under it. I was just too lazy to go find one. I'm not sure about this dress, though. I sort of feel like it makes me look pregnant.

2. Shoes

I'm at the point in my life where I feel like I need to buy some investment shoes. You know, shoes that cost more than $20. I've decided that I need heels that are as comfortable as old-lady heels, but that are cute enough for someone who isn't even 30 yet. Any brands or styles you can suggest for me?

3. Jewelry

Where can I get some fun jewelry? And what should I buy?

Please save me from myself. Please?

Gotta say that I am not in love with the tan skirt at all, it looks frumpy on you and college-y.

Love the argyle, but would wear it with a monotone top and skirt rather than trying to mix it up. There is enough going on already with the tights.

Love Aerosoles for comfort, they aren't super pricey, but not cheap either. They have a line of 'younger' shoes too.

I think the argyle tights are nice! But the color of the tan skirt doesnt 'go' with the tights, a dark shirt would be much better with those.
But I dont like the tights with the blue top. Stick with the other one and black skirt options.

And I have no clue for shoes. I still suck at this part, as well as the accessories.

I agree - love the argyle, but not the tan skirt. How about a slim black skirt?

I decided a few years ago that I needed good shoes - and love Clarks. I'm not a heels kind of girl, but find that they have nice styles and are super comfortable for my wide feet.

I must say, not a fan or the argyle tights. They make your legs look funky. It wouldnt be so bad if the two colors werent so high contrast. The red dress is really too long to be considered a "tights" dress. But like hose, tights can be worn with just about anything... in this case they just look like hose. The tights look typically doesnt cover the foot and ends either at the calf or ankle. If you are short it can be difficult to pull off. None of these looks appear office to me, unless you have a casual office. I prefer kitten heels. They are cute and always comfortable for me. My favorite heels are under $20 from target and very cute. I dont see why you need to spend more on shoes unless its boots. Its worth it to invest in good leather boots. I like etsy jewelry. Its affordable and often looks like a million bucks.

I think the argyle tights make your legs look chunkier than they are. You may be able to pull them off with a longer pencil type skirt. The dress looks very nice, in my opinion. From the angle you took pictures of, it skims your waist and hips better than the skirt/shirt combos above, and makes you look slimmer rather than lumpy and bumpy.

Personally, I tend to go for skirts that are at or slightly below the knee, as I've gotten older and wiser. As for shoes, Aerosoles are good and comfy, as are Clarks, Born, b.o.c, though not all are super dressy.

LOVE the last outfit - probably because I have one pretty similar that I wear a lot. I usually toss a black cardigan over it & pair it with a chunky teal necklace.

You should check out Allora Handmade - I think one of her roses necklaces would be gorgeous with it!
